Fern to Fork:
A Food & Travel Guide from the Road
Welcome to Fern to Fork -- There are two things I love most in life: traveling and eating amazing food. That’s exactly why I started Fern to Fork—a blog dedicated to sharing my favorite restaurants, bakeries, and coffee shops from my full-time RV travels.
I don’t go out to eat just anywhere. If I’m spending money on a meal, it has to be something I can’t make better at home—something that truly wows me. Whether it’s a perfectly baked chocolate croissant from a small-town bakery a mind-blowing vegetarian dish that makes me forget about meat entirely, or a coffee shop with the best latte I’ve ever had, every place I feature here has earned its spot.
How Fern to Fork Started
I’ve been keeping a running list of my favorite restaurants for years—long before I ever thought about turning it into a blog. Growing up in Chicago, going out to eat was one of my favorite activities. I was always on the lookout for standout meals, unique dishes, and hidden gems. I kept track of where I ate, what I ordered, and what I’d recommend to others.
That list kept growing when I moved to Portland in 2020, and it didn’t stop when we transitioned to full-time RV life in 2021. Now, my home—a 38-foot RV named Fern—takes me all over the U.S., introducing me to small-town eateries, must-visit restaurants, and unforgettable bites along the way.
What You Can Expect from Fern to Fork
Fern to Fork is a little bit of everything—a restaurant guide, a food journal, and a travel diary. Here’s what I’ll be sharing:
-
Restaurant, Bakery & Coffee Shop Recommendations – The best places I’ve eaten across the U.S., with a focus on standout dishes that truly impress me.
-
Vegetarian & Vegan-Friendly Dining – As of August 2024, I’m vegetarian, so future recommendations will highlight incredible plant-based meals that go beyond salads and veggie platters.
-
Small, Local Gems – I especially love highlighting hidden gems—restaurants that might not have a big online presence but absolutely deserve a visit.
What makes the cut? I look for bold flavors, unique dishes, and unforgettable bites. If a place makes my list, it means I’d go out of my way to eat there again.
